30-day practices for Personal Development

Happy 2024!

We made it through the holidays. 😅

We stand here on this sparkling new shore.

I liked this quote from Insight Timer, my favorite meditation app, on January 1st.

To welcome this new year, I’m engaging in 3 x 30-day practices for personal self development and to improve the mindset.

I’m sharing them here in case you’d like to do them too!

1. Yoga with Adriene.  She became a HUGE go-to yoga teacher on YouTube during the pandemic.  For 10 years she’s been leading a 30-day New Year practice.

The theme is Flow – not just vinyasa (though there certainly will be some of those) – but to increase our access to and awareness of our energetic flow.

I’ll admit it, as I approached the first couple of days, I thought, “How long is this video?” with an attitude of wanting to just get through it.

But Adriene has a way of slowing me down.  Before I knew it, I took a deep breath and paid attention to the present moment.  And isn’t that what yoga is supposed to be about?

If you want to play along just go to her on YouTube.

Let me know if you’re doing it too.  A few WILL Members & Alumni are doing it and I may set up an accountability group to check in about it.  Lmk if you want in by hitting reply!

2. The second is a daily journaling prompt my business coach is sending me.  My intention is to do that right after I finish YWA (Yoga with Adriene 😉).

3. My third is one you can play along with also and it comes from this book.

In Chapter 12 of Excuse Me, Your Life Is Waiting,  you’ll find this exercise to combat your negative mental undertow:

  • Write down 30 things you appreciate about yourself.
  • They can be as “little” as “I have great hair!” or “I love to ice skate!”  “I never leave dishes in the sink overnight” or “My cuticles are in excellent health!” Or be as “big” as the kind of person, parent, worker or friend you are.
  • Don’t judge the size, write down what feels TRUE and makes you give a knowing, satisfied nod of self-appreciation.
  • For 30 days go through your list one at a time.
  • Anytime you feel the “negative Nellies” creep in, go to your go-to phrase.
  • Notice what starts to happen!

To be honest, this is the first time I’ve done either practice, so I’ll be noticing right along with you.

I’ll report back throughout the month and in early February.

Till then…

How do you want to start this new year?

What would be a loving choice you could make?
