I saw this meme on Facebook while in the back of a car on the way to the airport. I was flying up to Portland, Maine for a work gig.
I clicked Like and smiled to myself. Calm is not usually my superpower. Impatience is deeply imprinted in my DNA.
I was pleased that I had gotten to the airport an hour and 15 minutes early. I was excited to land in Portland; I have a great friend there and I love the city.
Then, I learned my flight had been canceled. Good thing calm was my superpower…
Six different modes of transportation, eight hours, and a whole lot of deep breathing later…I arrived.
It was night, but still early enough for me to meet my friend for a quick bite and get to bed at a reasonable hour.
Liking that meme on the way to the airport helped set my intention for the day. I was calm the whole time. If I hadn’t clicked “Like” with a laugh, I might have been an impatient, angrier, and more frustrated traveler.
In his book The Power of Intention, Wayne Dyer goes well beyond the basic definition of intention as: a strong purpose or aim, accompanied by a determination to produce a desired result. He shares the science, practice and yes, magic behind setting powerful intentions.
Thinking of our intention as a superpower is a lighthearted way to cultivate how we want to be or what we want to achieve.
Just for today, what is your superpower? Focus? Joy? Courage?
Say it in the present tense…“My superpower is…”
For me, today my superpower is humor.
What’s yours?
