Every now and then, I get lucky.
A few weeks ago, a reporter from the Wall Street Journal reached out to see if I had anything to say about goodbye emails.
Of course I said, “Yes!”
The journalist, Rachel Feintzeig and I spent about an hour talking about WILL, trends I’ve seen this past year and goodbye emails.
It ran this week with my quote!
You can read the full article below, and here’s the skinny:
Write the scathing, furious, tell-all goodbye email on paper or in your own private email.
Save in drafts.
Never send.
Then write an email to say goodbye. Yes one that’s politic, and tends towards appreciation.
Yes, be authentic. Share about where you’re going, or don’t.
Once you’ve given notice the balance of power shifts.
Strut out the (virtual) door and press send with your head held high.
The days of exhaustion, anxiety, and being chained to the desk are over.
You choose to put your mental, physical and relational health first.
You do this for you.
