Last year, on February 22nd, I flew back from Los Angeles where I’d gone for work and winter break with my family. The news about Wuhan and the COVID-19 virus was out, and on the flight home, I sat near two people wearing masks.
“This may be the last time I’m on an airplane for awhile,” I thought.
Then, on March 7th, my friend Shannon had her 50th birthday party at an Irish pub just north of Times Square.
Many of our friends from the neighborhood went, and the subway ride down was a party unto itself! I remember sitting together, talking and laughing.
At the pub, Shannon ironically drank Corona beer. It felt like a last hurrah.
The following week, kids did not return to school, the City shut down. This year has been a collective event, while simultaneously, intensely personal.
We all have a Corona anniversary. What’s yours?
Just the fact of being in this anniversary can stir stuff up, so please be extra kind to yourself. I share an article below that includes some good resources.
WILL members who enrolled in 2020 said that COVID helped them gain clarity about what’s no longer tolerable in their lives.
For some, it’s provided relief – not having to commute, travel, or wear their “work drag.” One WILL member, who is a partner and previously traveled constantly, got pregnant! (We’ve had a few of those, actually.)
Many are happier in their WFH garb, bra-free and able to eat lunch with their kids. For others, childcare is a nightmare. Of course, the firm expectations never let up.
But there was more space to think and let what was unwanted come to the surface.
What has Covid helped you clarify?
I invite you to write down what you know you don’t want. Then, write the flip side.
This one simple exercise can help you name what you DO desire. If you…
> don’t want to go back into the office, travel or do work that drains your soul…
> are clear that you cannot tolerate this for another year, whether you work from home, office or the moon…
> know in your heart you want to figure out what else you could do…
You are invited into the WILL room.
Join other smart, kind, amazing women who are leveraging this moment in the collective re-evaluation to discover their truth, and learn how to love themselves just a little bit more.
That’s where it begins. With you.
With love and extra tenderness, Elena
P.S. Here’s that article on anniversary trauma. Please take care of your body, mind and spirit during this time.
Do you want to make a change you can be proud of?
If yes, I believe WILL can help.
