A question that WILL members tackle is “when is the right time to leave big law”. When you want to leave, yet your fear runs the show, you’ll make excuse after excuse.
You’ll rationalize your way into staying. (Have you done that hundreds of times?)
The truth is, there will never be a good time – it’s about deciding to make it the right time.
WILL member Rebecca has been leading up to her decision to leave big law for a few months. Last month, she described how WILL has helped her decide to make this the the right time.
Elena and I started doing our work together about 6 months ago now. I have done a lot of mindset work around what my inner critics were telling me. I also did a lot of work on what I really wanted my life to look like. Specifically, I sat with myself and explored both my values and my strengths, so I could understand what kind of work I wanted to do and how I could make the greatest contributions.
It turns out that all of my top 5 strengths were relationship-based, such as empathy, and harmony!
Sitting alone in my office with minimal collaboration and reviewing documents or conducting research was not playing to my strengths!
As COVID-19 hit, I was starting to dive in and explore options in government/politics. To add further uncertainty, all of the partners in my office at my law firm decided to leave to go to another firm, and nobody gave the associates, including myself, assurances that we still had jobs.
I am now so confident in my own worth and value, that I know I will find opportunities where I can do fulfilling work in an environment where people appreciate all that I bring to the table.
A couple weeks ago during our Community Call, Rebecca shared that she decided to leave big law!
During our coaching call she said…
I feel like being in WILL has turned it around for me and given me courage.
First of all, I now believe in myself that I can do anything. Things will work out for me because of who I am and what I bring to the table. I also realized I have saved enough money to be fine for quite some time, and I’ve been saving even more during Covid.
I now choose to believe that the best can happen. I would not have been able to do this without WILL and without the community of women.
I can’t wait to see where she goes from here! The WILL community is cheering Rebecca on and celebrating her decision and future wins. Will you join us?
