I love yoga and have been practicing for a long time.
When in class, I get excited and a little nervous right before we begin to OM.
I’m not sure if I should wait for the teacher to begin, or if I should take a deep breath and start.
See, there’s a little part of me that worries I’m going to “do it wrong“.
Be too loud, or hold it for too long. Do you know what I’m talking about?
Then just this morning in yoga class, my teacher did something that I so appreciated.
She said, “We will make the sound of OM. I will guide you. Take a deep breath and follow me.”
I felt taken care of. I could OM without worry and relax into the class.
I want to guide you out of big law.
For the past 12 years I’ve coached everyone from college students to Chiefs of Medicine, museum leaders to neighborhood dads.
But the people I want to guide, are you.
Women attorneys who feel unhappy, doubtful and stuck.
I know you can make your way to a new life and career.
Where you don’t have to drop everything to work on a deal.
Where you feel you are doing good in the world, especially now.
Where you clarify and contribute your gifts in a way that feels meaningful to you.
But you don’t know how to get there. The biggest obstacle is fear.
Fear of:
failing if you don’t succeed in making a change
letting others down – in your firm or family
the money
fear of failure if you want to do something different*
or… [fill in your own fear]
It’s hard to face that alone.
The good news… You don’t have to.
Now, take a deep breath, join me in a big long OOOOMMMMMMMMM.
*From a recent conversation with Angela in San Francisco…
“I really did appreciate the group element and found that to be very valuable and grounding to hear the similar thoughts and concerns that other women lawyers had. Just hearing the unspoken things to be spoken out loud was helpful. It helped me address that gremlin, which is that fear of failure, if I want to do something different, that means I’ve failed as a lawyer, et cetera. So it really helped me begin to let that fear of failure go.”
