On LinkedIn I recently saw and jumped on an invitation to hear Arriana Huffington speak.
Her new venture, Thrive Global, teamed up with Samsung to create an app to help us monitor our cell phone use. (not available for iOS yet ?)
Ironic, no? A major tech company helping us regulate tech. But they see the necessity since phone addiction is interfering with human connection, empathy and creativity.
Arriana used the analogy of electricity. “We are not anti-electricity when we turn the lights out at night,” she said.
“Sometimes, we need help to be present at dinner with a child or loved one, to actually watch a soccer game or concert with our eyes and hearts, not from behind a screen.”
Who else wants to get out of (big) law and find freedom from the billable hour to spend more time with family?

Micro Steps
We need to take micro steps in the direction we want to go. Taking small, consistent actions is how we achieve our goals.
Celebrate Each Success
At the end of each day, look back and make note, truly see and acknowledge the progress you DID make. Write down your successes. Yes, there is still a mountain ahead to climb, but recognize each small step forward.
Measure Success Backwards
Now I’m adding my own spin here – measure success backwards. After a quarter, six months or a year of working on a project, pause and recognize your progress! This is far more energizing than looking at the long road ahead.
When I measure backwards with WILL, I feel the momentum.
I now offer a variety of ways to help women who struggle to leave (big) law and find freedom from the billable hour.
And have more new ideas simmering… WILL retreat in Italy anyone
